My Memories from Taylor Swift's Fearless Album | Dear Diary 2021

Taylos Swift just released the official list of songs included in her Fearless Taylor's Version album and I am getting all the feeeeeels!

Seeing the list of songs included brought me back to my high school days when my biggest worry was passing classes and checking if my crush noticed me. The album was released in 2008, but it was around 2009-2011 when I was heavily playing these songs. I learned to play the guitar in 2009 and Taylor Swift's songs (and worship songs) were what I would play all the time. I know how to play most, if not all of her songs on the guitar and know the lyrics to them by heart.

You cracked the codes and guessed all the From The Vault titles. 👏👏👏 Here’s the full track list, my friends. I’m...

So, in celebration, here's the list of Taylor's Version songs and the memory that I associate them with + a multitude of my old photos.

Fearless

"But you're just so cool, run your hands through your hair absent-mindedly makin' me want you"

So, when I was in high school, I was really close with my crush and we would kinda do most things together. And there will be moments that would just make me smile because it feels like a scene in a movie, and it's even romantic things. Just really simple things like seeing him smile or seeing his eyes light up when he's talking about his ideas and plans. Above all, his drive to do things made me admire him.

Fifteen

"Soon enough you're best friends, laughing at the other girls who they think they're so cool..."

Like Taylor, this was a song that reminded me of my best friend. There was a time in my life that I was didn't really know anyone in school except my best friend who remained a constant in my life. When I moved schools again the next year, it was music that saved me and gave me a chance to make new friends. My friends and I would spend hours upon hours playing music and goofing around.

Love Story

"So close your eyes, escape this town for a little while."

Of course, the iconic Love Story. Who doesn't have a memory associated with this song? For me it's the overall feeling of playing music and singing my hearts out. It symbolizes being free for me and I think this song is the eureka moments for me, that I can make my own. I remember there was an interview about Love Story and her song writing story came up and I was like, "Yeah, I can write songs too!". So I did. Here's one that I wrote. I also specifically remember when I first learned of this song. I saw a forum signature in Candy Corner with the lyrics and I later on learned of the song and everything just clicked.

Hey Stephen

"All those other girls... well, they're beautiful. But would they write a song for you?"

I wrote a lot of songs when I was younger, and I wish I can still play them. Maybe someday. I also heavily associate this song with Vampire Academy because this was the song I used to listen to all the time while reading the book. Until now I really like it because it's very playful and I identify with it so much.

White Horse

"I was a dreamer before you went and let me down. Now it's too late for you and your white horse to come around."

I actually made a cover of this song and I remember during this time I was going through a hard patch and I really didn't know how to move on. Until now I can hear the pain in my voice. I don't really remember why I felt so hurt, but I do know it was not about boys. It was something that happened to me and well, I think it was more of a realization that life isn't fair and I had to swallow that pill.

You Belong With Me

"She's Cheer Captain, and I'm on the bleachers, dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time."

Another iconic Taylor Swift song! This was my anthem when I learned that my high school crush liked someone else when all along I thought it was me. Yes, there was a time that I thought my crush liked me because he kept on describing someone that he was very close with. Yep, not me.

Breathe

"And we know it's never simple, never easy. Never a clean break, no one here to save me. You're the only thing I know like the back of my hand."

I specifically remember singing this song in my old school with my sophomore friends. I really couldn't hit the notes, but my best friend could. It was my story writing anthem. I wrote one of my novels, Love in Tecnicolor while listening to this song. Love in Technicolor was the longest and saddest story that I wrote. Maybe when I release it, you'll understand. This song is a clue.

Tell Me Why

"You tell me that you love me then you cut me down..."

Not really in the same era but the memories I associated this song with was with a person I dated before and it just didn't go well. I'm glad that I got out of that phase.

The Other Side of the Door

"Me and my stupid pride sittin' here alone, going through the photographs, staring at the phone"

Another story anthem, this one I wrote while I was writing "We Were Never Us", which is another sad story. The plot kindly follows the song so listen to it if you need a clue on what happens in the story.

The Way I Loved You

"Breakin' down and coming undone, it's a roller-coaster kinda rush and I never knew I could feel that much, and that's the way I loved you"

I dated a "perfect" guy in the past and I say "perfect" because it was all superficial. This song hits the spot if I need to describe the feeling of being with him. However, we all know there is no perfection in this world. After a couple of weeks, his true colors began to show and it just wasn't for me. It was amazing when it lasted but I couldn't deal with all the trouble and baggage that comes with committing into a relationship with him.

Forever and Always

"Was I out of line? Did I say something way too honest, made you run and hide like a scared little boy"

There is no other breakup anthem song for me except this song. It's also one of the only songs that I can comfortably play on the guitar because the chords are very easy. It explains the rollercoaster ride of breaking up with someone in my own opinion. All the questions, the sadness, the confusion, the hope that maybe things can still be fixed but knowing it probably wouldn't be fixed anymore.

The Best Day

"And now I know why all the trees change in the fall, I know you were on my side even when I was wrong. And I love you for giving me your eyes, for staying back and watching me shine. And I didn't know if you knew, so I'm takin' this chance to say, that I had the best day with you today"

When I first heard this song, I immediately thought of my lola who has been there for me all my life. This is my song for her.

Change

"We're getting stronger now, find things they never found. They might be bigger but we're faster and never scared."

One of the most powerful songs I have ever heard in my lifetime. It's a pep talk kind of song for me. When I hear this I just get a burst of confidence and I feel like I can conquer anything. I feel like anything I can dream of is possible and it's such a feel-good song.

Jump Then Fall

"I realize your laugh is the best sound I have ever heard. I like the way I can't keep my focus, I watch you talk, you didn't notice. I hear the words but all I can think is we should be together."

Untouchable

"In the middle of the night when I'm in this dream, It's like a million little stars spelling out your name."

When I first saw this on the list, it didn't ring any bells, but then I listened to it and I feel like I just opened a floodgate of memories. I used to listen to this when I was writing fanfiction (yes, I wrote fanfiction). Specifically DraMione or Draco/Hermione fanfiction. This is one of the songs that I feel like describes their love story for me. Remembering those seemingly forgotten memories was a beautiful feeling for me. I wonder how many more memories I have that are like that. It's like a lullaby. Simple and calming

Come in With the Rain

Honestly, this sounds like a worship song for me. It has the same lyric style and melody, but I guess that's country songs for you. Don't really remember playing this song much.

Today Was a Fairytale

"I wore a dress. you wore a dark grey t-shirt. You told me I was pretty when I looked like a mess."

Last but not the least, this amazing song. This is a song I associate with one night in my life when I felt like the world was giving me moments after moments of happiness. There's a recital that happens in my high school every year, and one of the times I met, it was the most wonderful time for me. I spent hours with my friends, there was music everywhere and everyone was having so much fun. It was a high light of the year, marking the official start of summer.

Also, my crush wore a dark grey shirt and I was in a dress and I was running around having fun and he told me I looked nice. So, yeah. I know I blogged about it somewhere here. Ah, teenage crushes.

The other songs on the list are songs that I haven't really heard, and I am very excited to listen to them. I fell off the Swiftie bandwagon during the "Lover" era and semi came back for Folklore and Evermore. I guess it's just not my tone anymore? This next album will be something that I will look forward for sure.

I can go on and on about Taylor Swift's songs but that's another post for another day.

What about you? Which Taylor Swift songs brings you back memories?

  1. I love Taylor Swift, I think her song teardrops on my guitar was the most memorable one because I always listen to that song when I was with my grandma in the hospital. I don't know but there's something about that song that reminds of that moment. until now, that song still touches me.

  2. This was a lovely trip down memory lane (and I appreciate you sharing small memories you associate with each song)! i visited your Youtube cover of White Horse and it reminded me of the time I also learned to play this on the guitar and piano (and much of her other songs too). I could relate with your cute crush story and thinking it was you he had a crush on. Naalala ko tuloy, haha! I have a feeling if we hung out in high school we would be jamming to her songs all day too! (I hope you release Love in Technicolor soon! It sounds like a lovely novel.)

  9. When TS went big, I was already an adult musician so yeah, what you narrate her perfectly describes her music at that time, but we appreciated her talent at that time. We knew she was going to be a very important icon in the industry.

  11. I also keep a playlist of the songs that remind me of happy days or unforgettable moments. I was never really a Taylor Swift fan, to be honest. I couldn't even name a Taylor Swift song. I just found it amusing that you have so many stories to tell for many of her songs.
